DON’T FORGET THAT 2010 IS OBERAMMERGAU PASSION PLAY YEAR!

COLLETTE VACATIONS has created 7 different itineraries incorporating a performance of the Passion Play, in the little Bavarian village of Oberammergau. The play, which depicts the life and death of Jesus is presented from the end of May, to the beginning of October, only every 10 years, to commemorate the town’s reprieve from the Black Plague which swept through Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries. Even if you have seen the Passion Play in the past, you will want to see it again, with new interpretations and cast. The time of the play has changed, with the first half taking place in the afternoon, followed by dinner in the village, and the final act in the evening.

King Travelways is holding space on “The Alpine Explorer with the Glacier Express”, and “Discover Croatia” for various dates during the season. Please call for availabilities and the brochures for those departures, as well as any other which might be of interest. It is a MUST that you commit to this now, as the tickets are becoming harder and harder to come by.(you are protected by trip cancellation insurance should you decide that you cannot go!)

A number of other tour operators, such as TAUCK, GLOBUS & COSMOS, are also running programs, which we would be happy to check into for you.

King Travelways is also operating a special Passion Play itinerary designed for UConn Alumni, departing May 26, featuring Krakow in Poland, Prague in the Czech Republic, Nuremburg and Munich, and the Tyrol in Bavaria. From there it is on to Oberammergau and the Passion Play. This itinerary has lots of fascinating extras. Call King Travelways or the UConn Alumni Office, c/o Deb Crary, for the brochure.

TAUCK WORLD DISCOVERY has reduced rates on many of their upcoming tours. We must call them on a one-on-one basis. But if you have a little date flexibility you might luck out on a fabulous Tauck Tour at a fabulous price. We will be happy to check for you. You have always wanted to try a Tauck Tour but thought that you couldn’t afford it ? You may be in for a terrific surprise!

UPCOMING PLANS FOR LATER IN 2010

GOLFERS - We have an “IN” with the planning committee for the 38th RYDER CUP, which is scheduled to be played in South Wales October 1st through 3rd. .Headquarters will be the beautiful Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, So.Wales. This is convenient for arrivals into London’s Heathrow Airport, and all kinds of optional tour possibilities present themselves for before and after. If you, and a group of your golfing buddies have a yearning to be at this world class event, let’s talk about it and plot and plan a little tour around this. Wales is one of our favorite destinations, and we would like to show this to you! It is the perfect time of the year to be in UK.

Plans are underfoot for a King Travelways tour to the Land of the Pharaohs – EGYPT. We will leave around November 1, for 2 weeks. Besides Cairo, the Pyramids and the Sphinx, we will fly to Luxor and from there board a beautiful Nile cruise ship for 4 nights, exploring Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and King Tut’s Tomb – the Aswan Dam and Abu Simbel. As long as we are ‘in the neighborhood’ we will take an extra 3 days and go to Jordan, to see the amazing ‘Rose City”, carved out of the rock mountains south of the Dead Sea, PETRA. Call to get your name on the list, as this will be a very special tour..

NOW – WE ARE REALLY LOOKING INTO OUR CRYSTAL BALL AND PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE.

* You know that the Summer Olympics will be in London in 2012
* You know that the United States Women’s Basketball Team is being coached by Connecticut Huskees own Geno Auriemma

Which means that all of UConn’s loyal fans are going to London in the summer of 2012!

King Travelways has been asked by UConn Alumni Association to create and handle several groups to attend the Summer Olympics. Already we have contracted for space in a beautiful Manor House outside of London on the River Thames, and we are planning several choices of itineraries. For those wishing to stay in the city of London itself we are looking into an ‘apart-hotel’, which can accommodate groups and families. You must get your name on the list for priority attention as we progress during the planning stages. Call King Travelways – or e-mail, with your name and numbers of your group, and we will get in touch with you to discuss your needs.

If you have any other travel plans with which we can assist, please let us know. This is how a tour is ‘born’.
